Choose the option that best matches your complaint.
FORMAL COMPLAINT
Choose this option if you want to make a formal complaint about a programme or programme promo on TV or radio.
Formal complaints must be lodged with the broadcaster in the first instance (unless you are complaining about a breach of privacy – see below). You can find the broadcasters' online complaints forms below:
Television
TVNZ (TV One, TV2, U and TVNZ7) (note: if you have a complaint about the Heartland channel use the SKY complaint form)
SKY Television (all channels) and PRIME
Radio
Radio NZ (Radio New Zealand National, Radio New Zealand Concert)
If you cannot find the broadcaster you are looking for then use the BSA's online form.
Alternatively, you can make a complaint in writing. Print out and complete this form and post it to the broadcaster. Postal addresses for the broadcasters can be found on their websites.
PRIVACY COMPLAINT OR ELECTION PROGRAMME COMPLAINT ONLY
Choose this option if you want to make a complaint that the privacy of an individual has been breached by a TV or radio programme OR about an election programme. Do not use this form for any other complaints.
Notes: Privacy – if you are complaining about privacy and another standard (eg. fairness) then consider submitting your complaint to the broacaster first – to do make a Formal Complaint (see above). Election Programmes – are you sure it is an 'election programme'?
REFER A COMPLAINT TO THE BSA
Choose this option if you have made a formal complaint to a broadcaster and received a decision from them or not received a decision within the time allowed for a reply. Refer a complaint to the BSA.
Other Complaints
Advertisements – If you're concerned about something to do with advertisements on TV, radio or in print, including magazines and billboards, then you need to go to the Advertising Standards Authority.
Informal feedback – If you want to lodge feedback about programming likes or dislikes or other issues not covered by the Codes of Broadcasting Practice, you should not make a formal complaint but simply contact the broadcaster concerned using their process for giving informal feedback. Website links to the main broadcasters can be found on our site.
