Road Transport Forum New Zealand and TV3 Network Services Ltd - 1997-114

3 National News. Item on truck tailgating included footage of a large truck following closely behind the reporter's car on a busy stretch of motorway. Complaint that the incident filmed had been fabricated by the reporter, who deliberately slowed down in front of the truck to make it appear it was tailgating. Upheld (balance, fairness, responsible programming). Orders (broadcast of summary of decision and $500 costs to Crown).

Women Against Pornography (Auckland) (WAP) and Max TV Ltd - 1997-115

Max TV: video of Iggy Pop's song "Pussy Walk". Video showed the prone, naked torso of a woman, in which her genitalia were explicitly exposed. Complaint about the visuals and also the lyrics. Upheld (good taste and decency, discrimination and denigration). Order ($3,000 costs to Crown).

McBride and Television New Zealand Ltd - 1997-106

Who Dares Wins. Complaint about three successive episodes in which men were seen to be undressing. Not upheld (good taste and decency, law and order, children's interests).

Malcolm and Television New Zealand Ltd - 1997-107

Cold Feet promo. Footage of a naked man covering his genitals with his hands. Not upheld (good taste and decency, responsible programming, children's interests).

X and TV3 Network Services Ltd - 1997-108

20/20. Item focused on the story of David Dougherty was released from prison following a retrial where the jury had found him not guilty of the rape of an 11-year-old girl. Complaint that the programme contained two factual inaccuracies. Not upheld (accuracy).

Warnes and Radio Pacific Ltd - 1997-109

Radio Pacific talkback. Comments from a caller that suicidal youth were selfish were endorsed by a talkback host, who also agreed that there were too many support groups for them. Not upheld (good taste and decency, discrimination and denigration).

Moore and Television New Zealand Ltd - 1997-110

Coca Cola Video Hits: Primal Scream's "Kowalski". Complaint that music video broadcast between 10.00–11.00am glorified violence, mocked the Catholic church and showcased lesbianism, and should not have been shown at a time when children were watching television unsupervised. St Bede's College and The Radio Network New Zealand Ltd - 1997-111

Newstalk ZB talkback. Host asked callers for their views on the possible reinstatement of corporal punishment in schools and commented about his own schooling at St Bede's College, referring by name to the man who had been given the duty of administering corporal punishment there and his attitudes towards that duty.
