Downs and TV3 Network Services Ltd - 1996-145

Nightline. News item dealt with apology from the Police for the deficiencies in the original investigation into the death of a 12-year-old girl. Complaint about showing post-mortem photographs of a dead child. Not upheld (fairness: unnecessary intrusion into grief).

Andrews and TV3 Network Services Ltd - 1996-146

Nightline. "The matriarch of the world's most dysfunctional family is resting tonight" was the introduction to a news item about the Queen Mother's 96th birthday. Upheld (accuracy). Not upheld (discrimination and denigration). No order.

Philps and TV3 Network Services Ltd - 1996-147

Ice TV. Comment  on road safety by one of the presenters of a programme targeted at teenagers. Not upheld (law and order, accuracy, responsible programming, children's interests).

Holding and TV3 Network Services Ltd - 1996-148

Beyond 2000. Item concerned with the build up of bacteria in the sand included some shots of women sunbathing topless on a beach. Programme was screened at 7.00pm. Not upheld (good taste and decency, children's interests).

Kossen and TV3 Network Services Ltd - 1996-149

Muppets Tonight. Model Cindy Crawford was a guest on the show and the dialogue included a reference to balloons. Complaint that it was an offensive comment made in the context of a children's programme. Not upheld (good taste and decency).

Fotheringham and Television New Zealand Ltd - 1996-150

Holmes. Interview with author of the recently published index of paedophile offenders raised the issue of paedophilia as a behavioural trait over which some men may have no control. Complaint that the assumption in the interviewer's comment that paedophilia was uncontrollable was not challenged. Not upheld (good taste and decency, law and order, children's interests).

Cheer and Television New Zealand Ltd - 1996-151

Side Out. Film featuring beach volley ball. Complaint that film that was PGR rated contained a reasonably explicit sex scene was shown at midday on Sunday. Not upheld (children's interests).

Children's Media Watch and Sparks and Television New Zealand Ltd - 1996-135, 1996-136

City Life. First episode of a new, locally produced programme screened at 7.30pm. Complaints that the programme was inappropriately classified as PGR and had been screened too early in the evening, with reference to specific scenes and some dialogue. Upheld (responsible programming). Not upheld (good taste and decency, children's interests). No order.

Hippolite and Television New Zealand Ltd - 1996-137

Assignment. Item examined the laws relating to prostitution following the conviction of a couple in Wellington on eight charges of brothel keeping; they were involved in what the police described as a multi-million dollar business. Not upheld (balance).
