Tonight. An artist taking part in an exhibition rolled naked in paint and then on a canvas. The police were called and the news item showed his encounter with the police. Complaint that the use of an electronic mask to cover Mr Muir's pubic area during the item meant that the report was not a true reflection of the original event. Not upheld (fairness).

Sheehy and Television New Zealand Ltd - 1996-072

Friends. Characters had a discussion about the number of lovers each had had. They also compared their current lovers' skills in bed with those of previous partners, and a dispute arose over who should have the last condom. Not upheld (good taste and decency, children's interests).

Good Morning. A spokesperson for Rape Crisis was interviewed and discussed some aspects of the work of Rape Crisis and how its services could be accessed. Complaint that the item was sexist and lacking in balance because it did not discuss the male perspective. Declined to determine (complaint both vexatious and trivial).

60 Minutes: "Chemical Trespass". Item dealt with apparent drift of spray during aerial chemical spraying. Allegation that drifting spray caused damage to plants on neighbouring properties and could cause damage to health. The item focused on the use of the spray 2,4-D ester, a spray manufactured by DowElanco (NZ) Ltd. Not upheld: majority (balance). Not upheld (fairness, accuracy, responsible programming).

"Death on Request". Programme on euthanasia, as practised in the Netherlands. The decision to end the life of a terminally ill man was examined from the point of view of the patient, his wife and his doctor. Not upheld (balance, accuracy).

Erotica. Repeat broadcast which dealt with the phenomenon of sex as entertainment. Declined to determine (discrimination and denigration, responsible programming).

CW and Max TV Ltd - 1996-067

Chat Bungalow. After announcer had used obscene language on programme, caller complained to broadcaster and was then named by the announcer on air. Upheld (privacy). Order ($500 compensation to complainant).

Song by Iggy Pop entitled "Pussy Walk". Upheld (good taste and decency). Not upheld (discrimination and denigration). No order.

"Secrets Revealed" and "More Secrets Revealed". Two programmes included segments which showed how magicians perform the illusion of suspension, and of sawing a woman in half. Not upheld (good taste and decency, privacy).
