BSA Pānui - Crisis coverage

Number 119
Kia ora koutou,

I hope you, your teams and loved ones are staying safe and well.

With the ongoing pandemic and related issues, and now the war in Ukraine, it is a uniquely stressful time for your teams and audiences. With so much happening, it’s a good time to remind people of the standards and what they mean for coverage.

In particular, our guidance on reporting on crisis eventsopen_in_new (developed with broadcasters in the wake of the Christchurch terror attacks) may be useful at this time. And, of course, you can always refer to the full standards hereopen_in_new.

If we can help in any way - by providing refresher courses on the standards for example - please do ask.

Looking ahead, in the next month or so we will share with you the results of our latest offensive language research, which will be another valuable resource for your teams.

Do take care,
Ngā mihi nui,
Glen Scanlon
Chief Executive
