This is a short note to share the news that the BSA is welcoming a new board member, as announced today by Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture & Heritageopen_in_new.
Aroha Beck (Tapuika) is joining the BSA board for a four-year term. She is a Wairarapa-based lawyer and consultant specialising in public law and regulatory systems.
Her career has included senior legal roles at the Ministry for Primary Industries, Department of Internal Affairs, the Real Estate Authority, the Environmental Protection Authority, and Te Ohu Kaimoana.
She is also a past member of the New Zealand Press Council (now known as the New Zealand Media Council).
We look forward to working with Aroha, who will join existing members Susie Staley (Chair), Tupe Solomon-Tanoa’i (public interest member) and John Gillespie (broadcasting member), on the four-member BSA board.
The board’s role is to govern the BSA and decide complaints, with members appointed by the Governor-General on the recommendation of the Minister of Broadcasting.
