A brief note to share the news that the BSA is welcoming two new board members and a new Chair, as announced today by Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture & Heritageopen_in_new.
Tupe Solomon-Tanoa’i joins the BSA board as a public interest member. Tupe is a prominent figure in the philanthropic sector and has held a number of governance and professional roles in areas such as culture, trade and international relations. She won the diversity category in the 2020 NZ Women of Influence Awards and this year was named as one of New Zealand’s most Influential Lawyers by NZ Lawyer in the Human Rights, Advocacy and Criminal Justice category.
John Gillespie joins the board as the broadcasting member. John brings a wealth of industry experience and many of you will know him from his former roles as Head of News and Current Affairs at TVNZ and as the Executive Producer of Fair Go and Head of News for Canterbury Television.
Susie Staley, who joined the board in 2018 and has been our acting Chair following the departure of Judge Bill Hastings, has been confirmed as Chair. Susie is a barrister and solicitor and a partner at Staley Cardoza Lawyers, and has considerable governance experience across a wide range of entities.
We're looking forward to getting to work with Tupe, John and Susie.
It does mean there remains one board position to fill, with the Ministry for Culture and Heritage responsible for that process.
