On 6 May 2026, the Minister of Media and Communications stated his intention to disestablish the Broadcasting Standards Authority as he considered the regulatory framework was no longer fit for purpose. The requirement for the BSA to produce a 2026-30 Statement of Intent (SOI), setting out its medium-term strategic direction, was no longer necessary. The Minister exercised his powers under s139B (3) of the Crown Entities Act 2004 to waive production of this SOI.
