Eight decisions released today

We released eight decisions today. Click on Latest Decisionsopen_in_new to see all the new decisions.

Two of the decisions were upheld by the Authority: one was a complaint about a Close Up item based on a school newsletter objecting to gay marriage; the other was a complaint against an episode of the Australian soap opera Home and Away which involved the date rape of a teenage girl.

See our media releasesopen_in_new dated 7th October 2013 on these two decisions.

The Close Up item claimed that the Principal of Pompallier Catholic College suspended a teacher and that students who opposed the comments in the newsletter were “threatened”.

The episode of Home and Away was classified G and broadcast at 5.30pm on TV3 in April this year. The complainant said that themes of rape and HIV were inappropriate in a G-rated programme and breached the standard of responsible programming.
