One Network News. Item dealt with range of work now undertaken by dentists. Item also reported that the diversity was the result of a decline in the level of tooth decay over the past 25 years which coincided with the period during which much of the country's water supply had been fluoridated. 93FM Hastings morning show. Remarks about Executive Officer of the Hastings A & P Society who had questioned the station manager as to why a crew had attended the A & P show without prior arrangement and in a vehicle used for promotional purposes. Radio hosts later apologised. Not upheld (good taste and decency, privacy, accuracy): action taken sufficient.

McDonagh and Television New Zealand Ltd - 1997-007

Assignment. Item examining the placement of two juvenile offenders with a known gang associate showed the home where he had been living. The complainants had bought the home earlier in the year and were carrying out renovations, and it was filmed without their permission. The broadcaster upheld their complaint and apologised, saying the film crew had been admonished. Upheld (privacy): action taken insufficient. Order ($500 compensation to complainants).

Montana Sunday Theatre: Forgotten Silver. Spoof about the 'discovery' of a long-forgotten work by a pioneer New Zealand film maker that had recently come to the notice of Peter Jackson, a successful international film director. Group Against Liquor Advertising and Television New Zealand Ltd - 1996-011

Trailer during Dunlop Tyres Sportsnight. The trailer for a forthcoming rugby game, which was sponsored by Steinlager beer, showed images that appeared to be gunsights moving around the football field. Complaint about the use of aggressive images in a trailer for a programme sponsored by a liquor company. Not upheld (liquor).

Smits and Television New Zealand Ltd - 1996-012

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Special: Class of 95. Many of the world's top models displayed swimwear in programme screened between 7.30–8.30pm. Not upheld (programme classification, children's interests).

Petrie and Television New Zealand Ltd - 1996-001

Assignment: "Lost youth lost hope". Programme dealt with youth suicide and included a discussion with some bereaved parents and youth counsellors. Not upheld (children's interests).
