The seizure was dealt with in an episode of Border Patrol and the item included footage of hedgehogs and ducks which had been tied up and had explosives attached to them. Summary [This summary does not form part of the decision. ] A Prime News item summarised the findings of a report released by the Auckland City Council on former mayor Len Brown’s spending while in office, and said, ‘Mr Brown received nine free stays at hotels worth more than $6,000 and 64 hotel upgrades worth nearly $33,000’. The Authority did not uphold the complaint that the item was inaccurate to report the ‘freebies’ in terms of free nights, when in fact they were mostly room upgrades. The value of the free rooms as compared to room upgrades was clearly outlined and accurately reflected the report. Viewers were not misled. The Authority did not uphold a complaint that two items on Newshub Live at 6pm breached the offensive and disturbing content, and children’s interests standards. The programme included interviewees using the terms ‘shit’ and ‘holy shit’. Considering relevant contextual factors, the BSA’s guidelines on low-level language, and the expectation children are supervised when watching the news, the Authority found the relevant language was not at a level meriting regulatory intervention. The Authority has upheld a complaint that an item on Fair Go that dealt with various issues arising from a house being built breached the accuracy and fairness standards. The Authority found the programme was inaccurate and misleading in its portrayal of the issues involved in building the house. It found the complainants were portrayed unfairly and their views were not fairly reflected in the programme.
