BSA releases five new decisions

The Authority released decisions on five complaints today, one of which was upheld. Two of the complaints raised the good taste and decency standard in relation to language used in the broadcasts. The Authority found neither ‘holy crap’ nor ‘SNAFU’ to be in breach of broadcasting standards, in the context of their relevant broadcasts.

One of the complaints related to a broadcast which showed the bodies of a toddler and her father who drowned while trying to enter the US. The Authority found that the images were not sensationalised and were justified in the public interest. The images were preceded by a warning which enabled viewers to exercise choice and control.
