Boyce and Radio New Zealand Ltd - 2000-157

Checkpoint. Lawyer for the police officer who shot and killed a man in Waitara was interviewed. She explained some of the background to the shooting and defended the request that the officer not be named by the media. Not upheld (balance)

Meikle and Radio New Zealand Ltd - 2000-158

Morning Report. British newspapers reviewed, including The Guardian. Complaint that considerably more reference had been given to The Guardian than to either of the other papers, so left-wing bias. Declined to determine (balance).

Burlace and TV3 Network Services Ltd - 2000-159

Courage Under Fire. During combat scene in film, one of the characters used offensive language including blasphemy. Not upheld (good taste and decency).

Documentary New Zealand: "The Real New Zealand". Item about New Zealand homestays included a segment about a homestay designed for gay visitors. Complaint that this promoted homosexuality while omitting information and warning about sexually transmitted diseases. Not upheld (good taste and decency, balance).

What Now? PM. Item on decriminalisation of cannabis included footage of a cannabis joint being rolled and two people sharing a joint. Complaint that this was unsuitable viewing for children. Upheld (children's interests). No order.
