One News: Millennium Moment. This included an item on nudist clubs, and members of one such club were shown relaxing or playing sport. Not upheld (good taste and decency, children's interests).

Painting and TV3 Network Services Ltd - 2000-040

British Sex. Series was publicised as taking a straight-talking approach to all things sexual and featuring "ordinary" people; the programme complained about included footage of a "body caster", who modelled body parts, including genitalia. Upheld (good taste and decency). Not upheld (children's interests). No order.

Tichbon and Television New Zealand Ltd - 2000-042

When Women Kill. Documentary about two women who had both served 10 years in prison for murder; complaint that individuals referred to in the programme by the two women had not been treated fairly as they had not been given an opportunity to respond to accusations made about their conduct. Not upheld (fairness, balance)

Timberlands West Coast Ltd and Sheaf and TV3 Network Services Ltd - 2000-029

20/20: "Unsustainable PR?" Allegations that Timberlands West Coast Ltd had lobbied the government to ensure it could continue to harvest native forests were put to the company’s Chief Executive. Not upheld (balance, fairness).

Ministry of Health and Television New Zealand Ltd - 2000-030, 2000-031

One Network News and Holmes. Items shown concerned a research finding that a lyprinol extract from green-lipped mussels had been shown to be effective in killing cancer cells. It was reported that researchers believed the compound could inhibit the spread of certain types of cancers, and that they were about to commence clinical trials. The Ministry of Health complained the items were inaccurate, unbalanced, lacking in objectivity, and distorted the research and its significance. Upheld (accuracy). Not upheld (balance, fairness, impartiality, distortion). No order.

Broad and The RadioWorks Ltd - 2000-032

The Rock. Conversation between the announcer and an actor portraying a fictitious Australian character, broadcast around 9.00am, used allegedly offensive language in discussing a woman announcer. Not upheld (good taste and decency, responsible programming: effect on children).

Barker and Television New Zealand Limited - 2000-033

One Network News. Item reporting on the situation in East Timor included graphic photographs. Not upheld (responsible programming, children's interests, violence).

Credo Society Inc and Radio New Zealand Ltd - 2000-034

Sunday Supplement. Segment included an opinion piece by a contributor in which he commented at length on a newspaper column captioned "If gay is the answer, what’s the question?" Not upheld (balance, accuracy, discrimination and denigration).
