Summary Footage showing the capture and shooting of one of three Bengali tigers which had escaped from a circus in Warsaw was broadcast on 3 News on 15 March 2000 between 6. 00-7. 00pm. The item included footage of a veterinarian, who was trying to shoot the tiger with a tranquiliser gun, himself being accidentally shot and killed. Gillean Parsonson complained to TV3 Network Services Ltd that it was "thoroughly irresponsible" to broadcast such graphically violent content in the early evening when children would be watching television....

Summary [1] A Newsbreak, during the children’s programme, Thunderbirds, was broadcast on TV3 at 2. 30pm on Saturday 7 September 2002. One item covered the trial of two young schoolboys found guilty of killing their father with a baseball bat. The same item also mentioned that a convicted child molester had previously been tried for the same offence. The accompanying visual coverage showed courtroom scenes. Summary A skit satirising media comment by the MP for Tauranga, Winston Peters, about an alleged trade in New Zealand bred St Bernard dogs for consumption in Asia, was featured at intervals during an episode of Ice As. The programme was broadcast on TV3 at 7. 30pm on 20 May 2000. Charmaine Kendrick complained to TV3 Network Services Ltd, the broadcaster, that the skit was "ill informed and in appalling taste". Murray Tonks complained to TV3 Network Services Ltd, the broadcaster, that the item lacked scientific credibility and that it was apparent that there was no independently verified research findings which backed the claims made. In his view, the item used a deceptive programme practice and was misleading, as it could have raised false hopes for cancer sufferers....

The item did not include any visuals of penis puppetry as the reporter stated that the "full monty" would not be revealed in view of compliance with "broadcasting standards". The footage broadcast included pictures of the outside of the business premises, and members of the staff dealing with the customer. Chris Clarke, the proprietor of Action Auto Services, complained to the Broadcasting Standards Authority about the broadcast, arguing that the filming had been carried out unlawfully on his premises.
